Planning for redundancy

“Ten PLUS ONE” steps for managing a succesful redundancy process

  1. Give consideration to other options – reduced hours, pay cut, reduction in other benefits
  2. Devise an objective selection process
  3. Prepare a plan that you can share with those involved
  4. Inform those who may be affected
  5. Consult with them – listen to their ideas, respond to their concerns
  6. Reflect on what you have heard
  7. Amend your plan as appropriate
  8. Make a decision
  9. Invite those who will lose their jobs to a meeting – they have the right to be accompanied and the right to appeal
  10. Communicate your plans for the future to your staff.  You still have a business to run!

PLUS ONE

You asked your staff to come and work with you.  It hasn’t worked out as either you or they planned.  Give them time to adjust and treat them with respect.  Everyone should be able to walk away with their head held high.
